Are EDT software driver/sdk packages available on-line?
Device driver/software updates are available on this web site under Support -> Software/Drivers page. The updates are identical to what is currently being shipped on CD-ROM disks with the boards. Be sure to read the associated README file when you download the software for instructions on extracting and installing. And always remove any previous versions of the software before installing a new one, using the appropritate utility (Add/Remove on Windows, pkgrm on Solaris, uninstall.sh on Linux).
Does it cost extra for the support software or drivers?
Only for VxWorks [details]. For Windows, Linux, Solaris and MacOS, a CDrom with device drivers and SDKs is included with the board. You can also download the latest packages from the Support -> Downloads section of this web site at any time.

*Solaris 32-bit mode drivers are included with all products, and 64-bit mode drivers are included with all PCI bus products. We are not aware of any problems running on Solaris 2.5, however builds and testing are done on Solaris 2.7 or later, so we can't guarantee operability on earlier versions of the OS.
**Linux drivers are built using the current Fedora release. There are no known problems running on other distributions (Debian, Yellow Dog, SuSE, CentOS, Ubuntu), however EDT regularly tests only on Fedora and Red Hat.
Do you support 64-bit operating systems?
EDT driver versions 4.0.0.2 and greater include support for 64-bit Linux on x86/64-bit, EM64T, and SGI Altix (IA64).
Solaris 64-bit is supported on all 64-bit Solaris PCI bus systems.
As of 2/2010 we are still working on Vista and Windows 7 64-bit driver development. Check back periodically or sign up for our e-newsletter for updates on this.
Can I get the Source Code?
Source code for libraries, utilities, example programs -- everything except the device driver kernel source, is included with the package.
Can I write my own device driver?
EDT generally doesn't provide device driver source code or support for customers to write their own device drivers. There are exceptions, usually involving an NDA and a support contract, which are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, so contact us if you have a special need and we will evaluate the request.
How often are the software support packages updated?
The software for the PCI DV series of products (Digital video) boards is typically updated 3-4 times a year, as support for new cameras is added. Software for other boards is updated somewhat less frequently but still at least a couple of times a year. Best bet is to check the version associated with the software in question against the contents of the version file in your installed package, to find out if you have the current release.
Is RTLinux Supported?
RTLinux is semi-supported -- that is, we can provide the example code with the driver for free with no guarantees, and answer basic questions. If you need a lot of support to get your application up and running (and sometimes RTLinux needs a lot of support) there may be support charges involved. For more information contact technical support. Please be prepared to provide your specific application requirements.
Is MacOS Supported?
Yes it is, for the PCI DV, see the device driver download page. We will add support for other boards as customer demand dictates. Follow this link for more information on MacOS support.
Is VxWorks Supported?
VxWorks device drivers are available for the EDT DV and CD series products, and can be ported to others upon request. There is a development fee for all VxWorks drivers. Follow this link for more information on VxWorks support.
Is PowerPC Supported?
Yes, using the Linux drivers you can run EDT boards on a PowerPC system.
Do you have Labview drivers? Matlab? IDL? Others?
Not directly. Our API is designed to allow programmers to build functionality into their applications, and all hooks are available to make EDT API subroutine calls from drivers for third party packages, but we do not provide the drivers ourselves. Some drivers are available from other providers; see our Partners page.
