PCI Express digital video fiberoptic interface

The production timeline for this product is still unspecified. All specifications subject to change without notice. For status updates, monitor this page or contact us.

Description

The PCIe8 DV-FOX is a fiberoptic input framegrabber board for Camera Link and AIA digital cameras. One, two or potentially four cameras can be remotely located up to 300 meters from the host computer, up to 10 Kilometers with the Extended Range option.

The PCIe8 DV-FOX occupies one 8 or 16-lane PCI express slot of the host computer. An EDT RCX module converts the CameraLink or LVDS/RS422 signals from most digital cameras to fiber optic cable. Alternately, this fiber optic interface may be incorporated in the camera -- contact EDT if you are interested in incorporating the fiber optic interface into the camera. Each camera must have its own fiber optic interface through which it can communicate with the PCIe8 DV-FOX in the host computer.

The PCIe8 DV FOX can be used as an input board for RCX C-Link (Camera Link) or RCX (LVDS/RS422) fiberoptic modules, as in the following block diagrams: click for RCX C-Link module data sheet click for RCX C-Link module data sheet

Alternately, two RCX modules can be used as a fiber optic "extension cord" to EDT or other third party framegrabbers: click for RCX LVDS / RS422 module data sheet click for RCX LVDS / RS422 module data sheet click for RCX module data sheet

The above are only some of the example configurations, many more combinations are possible. See the separate RCX and RCX C-Link datasheets for more details on on the modules and possible configurations.

Cameras Supported

Most camera link cameras are supported or supportable when using an RCX C-Link module at the camera end, see the module datasheet and camera link support for details. Many AIA (LVDS / RS-422) cameras are supported, when using the RCX module at the camera end, see the module datasheet and AIA camera support for details.

Requirements

System must have a PCI Express bus (8 or 16 lanes) that is not dedicated to display use only. See bandwidth requirements.

Support

EDT provides several levels of customer support, from phone consultation to custom design of hardware or software at hourly rates. Basic support for installation and initial configuration is included at no extra charge.

Ordering

To order, contact our sales department or your distributor. Ask for the PCIe8 DV-FOX plus RCX-LVDS or RCX C-Link module. Ordering options include:

  • RCX interface/signal level (RS-422, LVDS or Camera-Link)
  • Number of modules needed
  • Range option (standard or extended-range)
  • Number of fiber optic inputs for FOX board (1, 2 or 4)

It is also very helpful to know which camera is being interfaced to.
