4 or 16 Channel Synchronous Serial Interface for PCI Local Bus Computers

The PCI GP-SSD is a legacy product, with limited availablity to existing customers only. Please see EDT's current Telemetry / Telecom page for comparable products.

Features

  • Serial rates up to 60 Mbits/sec (4 channel), 4 Mbits/sec (16 channel)
  • Independent clock per channel
  • Standard RS-422 or EIA-644 (LVDS), driver/receivers, or optionally RS-485 (please specify when ordering)
  • Compatible with PCI platforms running the Solaris™, Windows™, or Linux operating system
  • Single PCI Local Bus slot

Applications

  • Monitoring serial data communications
  • Telemetry receiver

Description

The PCI GP-SSD is a family of synchronous serial interfaces. It can be ordered with RS-422, or EIA-644 (LVDS) drivers and receivers. Please specify driver/receivers when ordering. In addition, it can be pre-configured for 4 or 16 channels (4 channels is faster), or converted from one to the other in the field through a firmware download.

Two 4-channel modes are provided. In SSD4 mode, there are 1, 2 or 4 data bits plus 1 clock per channel, input only. In SSD4IO mode, there is 1 data bit plus 1 clock per channel, each channel independently selected as input or output.

When configured for 16 channels, there is 1 clock and 1 data bit per channel. In 16 channel mode, channels are programmed for either input or output in groups of four as follows: 0-3, 4-7, 8-11, and 12-15. The data is sampled on the rising edge of the clock and stored in the host computer memory by the PCI GP-SSD DMA. Data from each channel is stored in a different region of host memory.

Software

Device drivers for Solaris™ (Sparc and Intel platform), Windowstm, and Linux are included with the PCI GP-SSD. The drivers provide access to the PCI through standard and asynchronous read and write system calls. A DMA ring buffer management library is provided for high speed continuous transfers. Example and utility programs written in the 'C' language are also provided.

Cables

Custom cable assemblies suited to your application can be provided. click here for a list of standard EDT cable assemblies.

Options

When ordering, specify whether 4 or 16 channel preconfiguration is required, as well as signal level: RS-422, EIA-644 (LVDS), or RS485. For ECL, order the PCI GP-ECL.

Support

EDT provides several levels of customer support, from phone consultation to custom design of hardware and software, at hourly rates.
