Camera Link Base mode extension cord configurations

Two RCX C-Link Camera-Link to fiber modules, fiber optic cable and power supplies make up a fiber optic extension cord for Camera Link cameras. The modules' compact design and robust thumbscrew attachments let you plug the modules directly into the camera and framegrabber, providing a direct replacement for a standard Camera Link cable. Camera Link signalling is encoded/decoded in the module hardware, so there is no need for a separate device driver. Extension cord systems will work with virtually any Camera Link Base mode camera and EDT or third-party frame grabber.

A base mode extension cord configuration for camera link cameras typically consists of the following components (refer to the block diagrams [pdf] for specific part numbers).

  • Two RCX C-Link camera link to fiber modules
  • LC-LC fiber optic cable, 6' or 200' or custom length
  • Power supplies (included -- specify domestic [110v] or int'l [220v])

Notes

  • 850NM tranceivers are standard on RCX C-Link modules, and provide a 150-500 meter maximum range depending on camera clock speed and fiber used; see the block diagram [pdf] for specific module part numbers. For extended range of up to 10 kilometers, order the Extended Range option, and use 1300 nm, 9 micron fiber. For more details on ranges and speeds, see the module data sheet.

  • Some cameras, framegrabbers or enclosures with tight tolerances may preclude plugging the module directly into the device; for these situations, EDT provides adapter cables -- see the users guide for tolerances.

  • EDT recommends purchasing a 6' length of our standard fiber to use for bench testing and verification even if you plan to ultimately use a different cable.
